GUITAR HERO LICKS Introduction: The Eddie Van Halen lick (in "Eruption") is derived from both the Ab Major and Minor scales with an added b5 (shaded blue). The lick is in the key of Ab major when the C, F, and G notes are played, and Ab minor when Cb, Fb, and Gb are played. The added b5 note represents D natural in both keys.
